The Tyrone Herald and Dungannon Herald recently merged into one single edition in February 2023. The titles, owned by NWNG, one of Ireland’s leading independently-owned media companies, will continue as a combined edition, as the singular edition of the Dungannon Herald hit the shelves for the final time on Thursday 9th February.
The History of the Tyrone Herald & Dungannon Herald
Launched in 2004, the Tyrone Herald has been one of the county’s leading weekly newspapers for nearly 20 years. NWNG launched the Dungannon Herald in 2016, and, since then, it has built up a loyal and dedicated readership.
However, the company has now decided to merge both titles, as part of the future development of its print and digital platforms in Tyrone, which also includes the Ulster Herald, Strabane Chronicle and the ‘We Are Tyrone’ website.
Thanking our Loyal Readers
On the final day of publication for the singular edition of the Dungannon Herald, the team at NWNG headed to Newell Stores to thank our loyal readership!
Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, hence it was important that we got out there and personally spoke to the readers, as they picked up the Dungannon Herald for the final time. The feedback on this day was brilliant, with readers excited for what was to come with the all-new Tyrone Herald.
Each customer who purchased a Dungannon Herald on this day, received a free coffee on us, to thank them for their loyalty. We also used this opportunity to explain to readers our plans and to reassure any queries or doubts; the Dungannon Herald is going nowhere, it is becoming bigger and better, alongside the Tyrone Herald!
What is next for the Tyrone Herald?
The Tyrone Herald will continue to be the county’s first weekly publication, with extensive coverage of local news and sporting action. There will also be enhanced news, sport and feature coverage as part of our commitment to continuing our service to readers in the east of the county, in our newspapers, and at www.WeAreTyrone.com.
When asked about the merge, the WeAreTyrone editor Nigel McDonagh said, “As the leading media provider in the north west, we continue to evolve and bring our readers trustworthy local news and sport in our print titles and also our digital platforms”.
The new era of the Tyrone Herald
As a new era begins within NWNG, we are so excited to develop our content on We Are Tyrone. Our commitment to providing quality news, entertainment and sporting content in our print titles remains as important as ever and we cannot wait to do this on a bigger and better scale.
The all-new Tyrone Herald builds upon our strong foundations to provide an exciting Monday edition, with the best local stories from east Tyrone and indeed, across the county.
We look forward to this new adventure with the Tyrone Herald. We would like to thank our loyal Dungannon Herald readers and hope they enjoy the new edition.
